The city of Hudson is in Columbia County, New York along the banks of the Hudson River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km2), of which 2.2 square miles (5.6 km2) is land and 0.15 square miles (0.4 km2), or 7.38%, is water.

It is centrally situated for easy access by train or car 2 hours north of NYC and about 40 minutes south of Albany, the capitol of New York state.
To the east of Hudson are the Berkshires, comprised of many towns and small cities including Great Barrington and Pittsfield. Across the river, the Rip Van Winkle bridge connects residents to the towns of Catskill and Athens.
